Send It Ahead

On Saturday at 10:00 a.m., we will fill a 20 foot shipping container and send it on it’s way to Africa.  It will have some home furnishings, supplies that are not available in Tanzania, a few comforts of home, items for the other missionaries who are already in country, and some supplies for the Andrew Connally School of Preaching.  We’re packing everything from peanut butter to hand sanitizer to plastic trash bags.  In a couple of months we will see that container again, Lord willing, and the contents that survived the journey will help us settle into our new life as African missionaries.  This is a huge step toward the fruition of the plan that we have been diligently working towards for close to a year now.
If you knew that you would be spending an extended period of time in a place very different from everything that you were used to, then what would you send ahead?  Would you ensure provisions for yourself and your family?  A time is coming when all of God’s faithful children are going to make such a trip.  Jesus will return and take us back with him to heaven.  The Bible gives us no indication, however, that we will be allowed carry-on luggage on that trip!  But it does tell us in Matthew 6:20 that we can be storing up for ourselves treasures in heaven now.  Those are treasures that are imperishable, incorruptible, and completely secure.
The day of the trip will be far too late so we’ve got to be planning ahead.  What have you sent ahead?  Where have you laid up your treasures?
